It's that time of year again when rugby fans in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy enjoy watching the toughest rugby players knock 7 bells out of each other, usually with a cold beer in hand (that's the fans, not the players - at least, not until after a match).
If you want to get fit rather than get beered during this year's 6 Nations, we've got the workout for you! Based on real rugby training, this challenge will increase your strength, power and speed. Whether you're an active rugby player, want a taste of rugby training, or just want a cracking strength and conditioning workout, this one's for you.
Rugby players of old often had a beer belly, builders bum and double chin. That's all changed, now think highly tuned powerful athlete. A rugby player wants to be powerful from head to toe, so this challenge is going to concentrate on the LEGS, STOMACH/CORE and UPPER BODY. The challenge is to complete the whole body workout at different intervals. The winner will be the person with the fastest time,but this will be adjusted by the greatest improvement. The workout is as follows:-
UPPER BODY WORKOUT (20 REPS EACH)
* WIDE GRIP PUSH-UPS
* STANDARD PUSH-UPS
* DIAMOND GRIP PUSH-UPS
ABDOMINAL CIRCUIT (20 REPS OF EACH)
* STANDARD SIT-UPS
* ALTERNATE ELBOW TO KNEES (COUNT REPS ON ONE SIDE ONLY)
* ALTERNATE HAND TO FOOT(COUNT REPS ON ONE SIDE ONLY)
LEG WORKOUT (20 REPS OF EACH)
* TW0 FOOTED SQUAT THRUSH
* WALKING LUNGE FORWARD (CHANGE LEAD LEG EACH REP)
* ALTERNATE SQUAT LEG THRUSTS (COUNT ONLY ONE SIDES REPS)
